Kolkata Knight Riders pacer Harshit Rana has reportedly been ruled out of the Indian Premier League 2026 season. The right-arm fast bowler suffered a knee injury during a warm-up match against South Africa national cricket team ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
As a result, he was also forced to withdraw from the global tournament and was replaced in the squad by Mohammed Siraj. According to a report by The Times of India, Rana underwent knee surgery in Mumbai on February 9. However, his recovery timeline makes it unlikely that he will be fit in time to feature for the Kolkata-based franchise in IPL 2026.
The 24-year-old was an important part of KKR’s title-winning campaign in 2024, taking 19 wickets in 13 matches at an average of 20.15 and an economy rate of 9.08, with best figures of 3/24. The report further stated that KKR have not yet finalized a replacement for Rana.
The franchise is currently looking toward bowlers such as Akash Deep, Vaibhav Arora, Umran Malik, and Kartik Tyagi to step up and make the most of the opportunities during the season. After impressing for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League, Harshit Rana earned a rapid promotion to the India national cricket team.
Initially, there were doubts about his selection across all three formats, but the young pacer has gradually proven his capabilities, especially in limited-overs cricket. In 14 ODIs, the right-arm seamer has taken 26 wickets at an average of 27.38 and an economy rate of 6.21, with best bowling figures of 4/39.
He has also chipped in with the bat, scoring 124 runs at a strike rate of 121.56, including a highest score of 52. In T20 internationals, Rana has picked up nine wickets in nine games, though his economy rate stands at 10.60.
Rana has so far played only two Tests, making his debut during the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. Across those two matches, the fast bowler has taken four wickets at an average of 50.75, with best innings figures of 3/48.
