Shubman Gill Ruled Out Of 2nd Test vs South Africa; Rishabh Pant Set To Captain India
Shubman Gill has been sidelined for the second Test against South Africa as well, with Rishabh Pant taking over the captaincy in the 26-year-old’s absence. Gill suffered a neck injury while batting in the first innings of the opening Test in Kolkata, which forced him to miss fielding duties during South Africa’s second innings and also kept him from batting in India’s chase of 124 runs for a hard-fought win.
The right-handed batter was taken to a Kolkata hospital after the end of Day 2 and was released the following day. A BCCI statement on Wednesday confirmed that the 26-year-old will travel with the squad to Guwahati, where he will continue to be assessed by the BCCI medical team as they track his recovery progress closely for the upcoming matches.
