Team India cricketer KL Rahul has had an excellent run in 2020 cementing his berth in the limited-overs side. However, things looked completely upside down a year back as he lost his form and touch. Recently, KL Rahul opened up his life after Koffee With Karan controversy and how he became selfish after that.

Rahul suffered a massive jolt when BCCI suspended him along with Hardik Pandya in the start of 2019. They received a lot of flaks for their controversial remarks in the popular talk show hosted by Karan Johar. Rahul and Hardik were sent home from India’s tour of Australia as they missed a few series.

I became selfish: KL Rahul after Koffee With Karan Controversy

Talking about that episode, KL Rahul said he became selfish and started focusing on himself which led to a string of failures. A couple of poor outings pushed him out of the side before he finally amended things. The batsman from Karnataka added only after focusing on team performance that he regained his own form with the bat.

“A lot of credit for my consistent performance goes to how differently I started thinking after 2019. with this suspension and with all that happened I was tempted or I was in a way wanted to be selfish and play for myself and I failed when I started focusing on myself and individual scores.

So I told myself I need to go out and do what the team wants me to do,” India Today quoted Rahul as saying.

Rahul made his way into the World Cup squad and since then, had a decent run. He recently toppled Rishabh Pant to be India’s first-choice wicket-keeper in the limited-overs as MS Dhoni continue to remain unavailable for selection. KL Rahul said focusing on being a team man after the Koffee With Karan controversy helped him change his mindset and become more consistent for the side.

“We all know our careers are not too long. I realized after 2019 that I probably have good 12 or 11 years left in me. So, I need to dedicate all my time and energy towards becoming a player and team man so that mind-shift really helped and took a lot of pressure of me when I started focusing on wanting to do better for the team and be part of champion teams and make a difference in the game,” he added.
