KL Rahul scored an unbeaten 62 in the first ODI against England as he found his lost form and came up with a crucial contribution. He added an unbeaten 112-run stand with Krunal Pandya who scored a fifty on his ODI debut to take India to 317/5. Rahul’s welcome knock came after he was criticised for failing in the preceding T20I series scoring just 15 runs in four matches which included two ducks. He was dropped in the last T20I which India won to win the series 3-2.

Meanwhile, addressing the pre-match press conference ahead of the second ODI, KL Rahul opened up on his new-found form and the dry run that he went through previously.

“As a batsman I feel being in the middle and playing games is what keeps me in good touch. Having not got as much game time as I would have liked, I mean I won’t say it did not play on my mind, but somehow or the other you have to find a way to be best prepared, be it at training or open net sessions,” KL Rahul said on the eve of the second ODI.

KL Rahul further spoke about the intense competition to hold onto the spot in the current Indian team. Several Indian players are vying for the same spot which shows the depth and the variety of the squad as well.

You Will Always Be Challenged: KL Rahul

“You can never sit back and feel comfortable like you own a position. You will always be challenged and that’s how it is. Our country has got a lot of talent, you will always try to push yourself and keep training harder and working on your game. And when opportunity comes, try to grab it with both hands,” he added.

Rahul is expected to keep his place in the second ODI after scoring crucial runs for the team in the final overs in the first game. If India wins the second ODI, they will win the ODI series after previously winning the Test and the T20Is series against England.
