Star Team India cricketer KL Rahul is all set to tie the knot with Athiya Shetty in January next year. While the couple are yet to make an official announcement on the same, reports have emerged that Rahul has taken a leave from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on personal grounds.

A report in News18 stated that Rahul is likely to miss India’s home series against Sri Lanka after the BCCI approved his leave during the period. The apex body, however, is yet to announce the schedule for the series against the Asian champions.

KL Rahul and Shetty have been dating for over three years and officially announced their relationship to the world at the premiere of Ahan Shetty, Athiya’s brother’s, debut film Tadap. It was then, that Suniel Shetty, Athiya’s father, and an actor, asked Rahul to join them for a group picture.

“Jab bachho ko break milega tab shaadi hogi” – Sunil Shetty on KL Rahul’s marriage

Meanwhile, the wedding has been on the cards for quite some time now. Athiya’s father Sunil Shetty had confirmed that the wedding was being planned but the couple’s schedule was being a hindrance.

“I think jaise hi bachhe decide karenge (it will happen as soon as the kids decide). Rahul ke schedules hai. Abhi Asia Cup hai, World Cup hai, South African tour hai, Australia tour hai. Jab bachho ko break milega tab shaadi hogi. Ek din me shaadi nahi ho sakti na? (Rahul has busy schedules, Asia Cup, World Cup, South African tour, Australia tour. The wedding will happen only when the kids get a break. It can’t happen in a day, no)?” Shetty told Instant Bollywood in August 2021.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul was rested for the Indian team for the series against New Zealand but will return to the team for the Bangladesh tour and will be the vice-captain in both ODIs and Tests.
