KL Rahul To Commence Rehab At NCA, Expected To Be Fully Fit For IPL 2024: Reports

KL Rahul, the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman, is likely to achieve full fitness for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) with the Lucknow Super Giants. A quadriceps injury has kept him out for most of the ongoing home Test series against England.

KL Rahul was recently excluded from the fifth and final Test against Ben Stokes and his team, as he traveled to England for consultation regarding his injury. In 2023, the wicketkeeper-batsman had undergone surgery due to a complete tear suffered midway through the IPL season.

Despite recovering for the 2023 Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup, Rahul’s workload was carefully managed. While he served as a keeper-batter in Tests during the South Africa tour, his role was reverted to a pure batter for the home series against England.

According to reports, Rahul has come back to India and started his rehabilitation program at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore.

“He had consulted top medical experts in London. As He returned to India on Sunday and has checked into the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy in Bangalore for rehab.”

“He should get the Return to Play certificate from the NCA soon. He is keen to prove his worth in the IPL as he’s in line for selection in India’s T20 World Cup team as a ‘keeper-bat,” a source told TOI.

KL Rahul’s inclusion in the Indian squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup hinges on various factors, notably because he hasn’t participated in a T20I since the semi-final match against England in the previous edition, which occurred two years ago.

KL Rahul’s batting role for LSG might change in IPL 2024

The wicketkeeper-batsman has been the primary run-scorer for his team in the last few seasons while opening. Yet, with strong opening options in both LSG and the Indian team, KL Rahul is said to be contemplating a move to the middle order.

Given the presence of formidable openers like Quinton de Kock, Evin Lewis, and the newly acquired Devdutt Padikkal, the captain might consider moving down the batting order. To catch the selectors’ attention for the World Cup squad, he’ll need to make a strong impact in the 2024 campaign.

LSG kicks off their IPL 2024 season with a match against the Rajasthan Royals on Sunday, March 24.
