“The Wait For 71st Continues”. It was another day of Virat Kohli missing out on a big score in international cricket. However, this time it would be unfair to criticise the former India skipper. The delivery which dismissed him was almost unplayable, thanks to the Chinnaswamy pitch in the 2nd match of India vs Sri Lanka Test Series.
Sri Lankan Off-spinner Dhananjaya de Silva was bowling the 28th over of the match. He pitched the third ball really short, it spun and kept lower than usual hitting straight on the pads of Virat Kohli, who was looking to nudge the ball towards on side. It was a plumb LBW call and umpire had no hesitation in deeming Virat Kohli out.
Kohli was left dejected after the dismissal as he kept looking at the pitch for some time before taking a long walk back to the pavillion. Even on-air commentator Harsha Bhogle said: “There is nothing you can do about that.”
Kohli scored 23 runs during his 48-ball stay at the crease. Here is how twitter reacted to Virat Kohli’s dismissal in the first innings:

Unlucky Virat Kohli, terrible terrible pitch, don't think anyone can play that.

Well you can't fault Virat for that dismissal. No one would have had a chance there. His disappointment just summed it up. https://t.co/9sfZMHhkZ0

Vihari's dismissal v Jayawickrama: extra bounce got him out. Virat Kohli got out to a ball that kept low. A batsman will find it tough to get set on this kind of pitch. Turning pitch. Tough batting conditions. 175+ looks like a good score here

72 inns without an Int'l century for Kohli, last Int'l century was against Bangladesh without Shakib & Mustafizur, in India on 23rd November 2019. Kohli's Test average since 1st Jan 2020 is 28.55. Kohli also has 32 ducks in Int'l cricket. Kohli is massively over-rated. #Cricket

Virat Kohli gets a grand welcome at Chinnaswamy Stadium
Meanwhile, the Bangalore fans greeted Virat Kohli with a loud applause when he walked out to bat in the first innings. Kohli has played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for past 14 years, therefore Chinnaswamy Stadium is like his second home.

Virat Kohli had smashed his 70th international century on November 22, 2019, as he played a 136-run knock against Bangladesh in the day-night Test at Eden Gardens. That was the last time he scored in triple digits and his search for another hundred has continued since then.
