Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders have roped in batsman Gurkeerat Singh Mann as a replacement for injured Rinku Singh, who will be out of the entire IPL 2021 with a knee injury, KKR announced in a release on April 3 (Saturday).
The left-handed batsman, who hails from Uttar Pradesh played only one game for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2020 that took place in the UAE. Rinku Singh scored 11 runs in that match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and since then had to warm the bench. The young batsman had joined the Kolkata-based outfit a couple of years ago and has been unsuccessful to showcase his talent scoring only 77 runs from 11 games with the best score of 30.
Rinku Singh to miss entire IPL 2021
Kolkata Knight Riders took in an official statement said that Rinku has been ruled out of the entire IPL due to a knee injury. However, they didn’t reveal any further on the injury. The Eoin Morgan-led side has roped in Punjab batsman Gurkeerat Singh Mann as the replacement of Rinku Singh for IPL 2021.
“Kolkata Knight Riders have acquired Gurkeerat at his base price of INR 50L. The VIVO IPL 2021 will be Gurkeerat’s eighth IPL season,” the official statement from IPL said.
Since making his debut Gurkeerat Singh Mann has played 41 IPL matches scoring 511 runs including two half-centuries. The cricketer from Punjab is also a handy fielder in the boundary. He has represented Kings XI Punjab, Delhi Daredevils, and Royal Challengers Bangalore before being released by the latter at the end of the last season.
Barring 2018, where he didn’t get to feature in a single game, Gurkeerat has played at least two matches every season since his debut. 2016 was his most productive season as he scored 113 runs in 7 games and even picked two wickets.
