Chennai Super Kings Team Member Tests COVID-19 Positive: Reports

As per a report in Times of India, a Chennai Super Kings staff member has tested COVID-19 positive on Saturday. Meanwhile, the players, coaches and support staff are all safe and sound. However, as per reports a member of their content team has contaminated the virus and has been sent into isolation. The three-time IPL champions start their IPL 2021 campaign against Delhi Capitals on April 10 in Mumbai. 

A CSK official confirmed the casualty to Times of India. He further said that the concerned person has been sent into isolation whereas no other member of the team has been affected so far.

“It is an official from the CSK content team. His tests came through today, following which he has been completely isolated from the rest of the squad. It can be confirmed that he didn’t go anywhere near the players and support staff. So they are all safe, and the team will continue to practice as usual today,” a CSK source was quoted saying by the Times of India.

Ahead of the 2020 edition of the IPL in the UAE, some of the CSK players had a COVID-19 scare. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Deepak Chahar were tested positive but managed to recover in time to take part in the league.

Meanwhile, ahead of this season, Josh Hazlewood, CSK’s overseas specialist decided to pull out from the season citing bubble -fatigue reasons. The franchise has not announced a replacement for him as yet.

A CSK official while speaking to Times of India said that they were not prepared for Hazlewood’s departure. When it comes to naming a replacement, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said that it is possible that the franchise will not sign another player in place of Hazlewood. The final decision, however, is yet to be taken. 

“It is a sudden development and we were not prepared for it. We will look at various options before arriving at a decision. But we have our bases covered. So if the team management feels we don’t need a replacement, we might not seek one,” a senior CSK official told the Times of India on Thursday.
