Kookaburra comes up with a new ball for shorter formats

1

The emergence of T20 format has really made a difference in the cricketing world. Chasing huge targets on day 5, hitting 400+ in ODI”s and the quickfire knocks down the order from many players have been possible due to the T20 uprising and the fact can”t be denied. A few months ago, ICC has granted all the countries the T20I status and this is enough to say how the format is dominating right now.

To add a  bit of flavor to the same, Kookaburra has come up with a new ball designed especially for the T20 format. If reports are to be believed, this ball will be in action from the T20 World Cup in Australia (2020). It is named “Turf T20” and designed to withstand power hitting capabilites. The center of the ball is made of cork.

“As Twenty20 cricket evolved, Kookaburra thought there should be a way to create a ball specific to its needs rather than follow the traditional method of ball-making that is used in Test cricket,” Kookaburra spokesman Shannon Gill said to Cricket Australia. He further added that the ball will undergo testing for the next 18 months before making the appearance in the Internationals.

It is to be noted that Kookaburra balls are ruling the world of cricket for longer periods of time. While SG balls are used in Indian conditions, Kookaburra is famous in overseas and the fast bowlers are using this as a weapon to unleash the power within them. It will be interesting how this new ball will change the happenings in the cricket going forward.
