Former India opening batsman Kris Srikkanth has his take on India’s stand-in test skipper Ajinkya Rahane‘s personality. The Mumbai batsman will be taking Virat Kohli’s place as the captain of the side for the remainder of the series as Kohli flew back to India as he’s expecting the birth of his first child with wife Anushka Sharma.
This will be the only 3rd time in history Rahane will be captaining the Indian side, the previous instance came against the Afghanistan national side when they played their first test in history against India couple of years ago. Virat Kohli isn’t the only player India will be missing in the test series as seamer Mohammed Shami also had to head back home after he sustained a fractured on his bowling arm while batting in the first test.

Ajinkya Rahane has a calming influence on the players: Kris Srikkanth
According to Kris Srikkanth, Rahane’s personality has a calming influence on the players which is quite different from the regular skipper Virat Kohli. Former chairman of selectors Kris Srikkanth feels with the change of captain from Kohli to Rahane, it might as well fall in favour of India as Rahane will be pitching in with his new set of ideas which might just fall in the favour of the Indian side.
“The new leader Rahane has a proven record in Test matches, like how he led the Indian team in Dharmshala. He has a good record in Test. As a personality also he has a calming influence on the players, he is not sort of the likes of Virat Kohli who expresses himself in an aggressive mod.
Maybe change in fortune with the captain also and if new ideas put he might set the different benchmark in the coming Test match,” Srikkanth said as quoted by News Indian Express.
Meanwhile, so far, Ajinkya Rahane has proved to be a successful leader as India have taken the driver seat in the ongoing Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
