The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets in the IPL 2024 final at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, May 26. They easily chased down a modest 113-run target in just 10.3 overs to claim their third title.
After the IPL 2024 final, KKR head coach Chandrakant Pandit gave a speech in the dressing room. Gautam Gambhir, the team’s mentor, interrupted to suggest that the players were eager to start celebrating. Gambhir was heard saying:
“Ladke paagal hore dance karne ke liye.”

It’s noteworthy that Gautam Gambhir has been instrumental in all three of KKR’s IPL title wins. He captained the team to victory in 2012 and 2014. The former India opener was brought in as a mentor for the 2024 season. His involvement helped the Kolkata-based team secure the IPL title after a decade-long wait.
“I will never forget that message” –KKR’s Nitish Rana reveals details of a text message from Gautam Gambhir
In a post-match interview following the IPL 2024 final, Nitish Rana expressed his delight at Gautam Gambhir joining the team as a mentor. Rana mentioned that he had sent a congratulatory text to Gambhir, who responded by saying he would be happy if Kolkata won the campaign. Rana said:
“I want to share one short story that when GG bhaiya (Gambhir) was named the mentor, I sent him a long message as I was really happy. But he replied saying, ‘Thank you but I would be happy if we stand at the podium with the trophy in our hands’. Today is that day and I will never forget that message.”
SRH’s total of 113 is the lowest score ever recorded in an IPL final. Mitchell Starc was named Player of the Match in the championship game for taking the key wickets of Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi.
