Recently, Rahul Dravid grabbed headlines not for another coaching stint or a commentary role, but for stepping back onto the pitch, this time alongside his younger son, Anvay, in a local 3rd division match. It was a moment that wasn’t just about runs or wickets, it was about legacy, family, and pure love for the game.
Rahul Dravid’s Continued Love for Cricket
Even at 52, Rahul Dravid proves that age is just a number when it comes to passion. His recent appearance in the Sri Nassur Memorial Shield 3rd Division game was a testament to that. Playing for Vijaya Cricket Club (Malur) alongside his 16-year-old son, Anvay Dravid, was more than just a game—it was a beautiful passing of the torch.
Though Dravid only managed 10 runs off 8 balls, his presence on the field wasn’t about numbers. It was about sharing the pitch with his son, guiding young players, and showing that true sportsmanship never fades. His calm demeanor and decades of experience naturally inspired the youngsters in the dressing room.
Sri Nassur Memorial Shield: A Memorable Match
The match between Vijaya Cricket Club and Young Lions Club had all the ingredients of an unforgettable game. After losing the toss and being put into bat, Vijaya Cricket Club put up a strong total of 345-7 in 50 overs.
While Dravid Sr. had a short stint at the crease, it was Anvay Dravid and Swapnil Yelave who stole the show. Anvay’s quickfire 58 off 60 balls displayed his composure and attacking style, while Yelave’s brilliant 107 runs anchored the innings.
Anvay Dravid: Following in His Father’s Footsteps
The 16-year-old is carving his own path in cricket, one innings at a time. As a wicketkeeper-batsman, much like his father in his early days, Anvay’s cricketing IQ and natural talent are already turning heads. Anvay’s ability to rotate the strike and capitalize on loose deliveries showed a maturity beyond his years—clearly, cricket runs deep in the Dravid bloodline.
In the Vijay Merchant Trophy 2023-24, Anvay emerged as the top run-getter for Karnataka, scoring 357 runs in five matches at an impressive average of 45, including four fifties. Before this, Anvay dominated the Under-14 State League, becoming the highest run-scorer while representing Vijaya Cricket Club. His rise through Karnataka’s age-group tournaments showcases his commitment to the sport and his growing reputation as a future star.

Samit Dravid: The Elder Son’s Cricketing Journey
While Anvay is making waves now, Rahul Dravid’s elder son, Samit Dravid, has also built a strong foundation in cricket. A versatile all-rounder, Samit has consistently performed for Karnataka in age-group tournaments.
In the Cooch Behar Trophy last year, Samit played a pivotal role in Karnataka’s title-winning campaign, scoring 362 runs and taking 16 wickets in eight matches. His all-round skills make him a valuable asset in any team setup.
Samit’s potential was recognized when he was selected for the India Under-19 team for a home series against Australia U19. Unfortunately, a knee injury kept him out of action during the series.
