Team India cricketer Shubman Gill continued his scintillating run in one-day internationals. He slammed a double century on Wednesday, January 18 against New Zealand at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. He became the fifth Indian to score a double hundred in ODI format.

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. Shubman Gill opened the innings along with the skipper. The duo got India off to a good start, scoring 60 runs in twelve overs. The team suffered a mini-collapse thereafter, and was reduced to 110/3. However, the opener kept one end solid. He put together crucial partnerships with Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya.

In the thirtieth over, Mitchell Santner bowled a short of length delivery, which Shubman Gill punched towards long-on. With that run, he took off his helmet, and raised the arms to celebrate his century. He put his feet on the accelerator, taking on the New Zealand bowlers. The opener slammed three consecutive sixes in the forty-ninth over to get to his maiden double-century.

Team India managed to score 349 runs in the first innings. Shubman Gill scored 208 runs in 149 deliveries, with nineteen boundaries and nine sixes. The opener also became the youngest double centurion in ODIs, scoring his second consecutive three-figure mark.
