A recent unusual incident halted play in the Lanka Premier League, but it wasn’t rain or bad light causing the interruption. Instead, a snake made an unexpected appearance at the R. Premadasa Stadium during the match between Galle Gladiators and Dambulla Giants, temporarily pausing the proceedings.
This peculiar event quickly gained attention on Twitter, sparking various reactions from fans and players alike. One notable figure to chime in was veteran Indian Wicket-Keeper, Dinesh Karthik. Taking a satirical approach, Karthik made a jibe at Bangladesh through his post on Twitter.
Referencing the snake’s appearance, he humorously remarked, “The naagin is back. I thought it was in Bangladesh.” Adding to the jest, Karthik included hashtags like “nagindance” and “nidhastrophy” in his post.

The reference to “Nagin Dance” is significant because it became a well-known celebration during the Nidhas Trophy in 2018, in which Bangladesh participated. Coincidentally, Dinesh Karthik played a crucial role in the tournament’s final, leading India to victory with a match-winning six. His outstanding performance in that match further solidified his position in Team India.
Apart from Karthik, former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris also joined in with his reaction to the snake incident. Amused by the situation, Styris expressed his astonishment by exclaiming, “I’ve seen it all now! Snake stops play!” on his own post.

The occurrence of a snake interrupting a cricket match is certainly an unusual and rare sight, deviating from the typical “Rain stops play” or “Bad light interrupts play” scenarios that fans are accustomed to seeing. Nevertheless, such bizarre moments have a way of capturing the attention of cricket enthusiasts and sparking humorous exchanges among players and fans on social media platforms like Twitter.
The incident serves as a reminder that even in a structured and regulated sport like cricket, nature’s unpredictability can occasionally take centre stage, adding an element of surprise to the game. While it caused a brief pause in the Lanka Premier League match, it will undoubtedly be remembered as a memorable and amusing incident in the world of cricket.
