Malaysia seamer Syazrul Idrus made history, breaking the record for the best figures by a bowler in Men’s T20Is. He became the first male cricketer to take seven wickets in a T20 International. He achieved the record against China in the opening match of the ICC Mens T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier B 2023 on Wednesday, July 26 at Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur.
After winning the toss, China opted to bat first. However, they got off to a disastrous start, as Idrus wreaked havoc with his bowling. He began his brilliant spell, dismissing both the openers, Wei Guolei and Wang Liuyang in quick succession. Soon, China was bowled out for mere 23 runs in around twelve overs.
Syazrul Idrus’ dismissed five China batters, Tian Senqun, Chen Zhuoyue, Wang Qi, Xie Kunkunand Zhao Tianle, for a duck. All of his seven dismissals were bowled. He finished with terrific bowling figures of seven wickets conceding eight runs in four overs, including a maiden. With this he became the first male cricketer to take seven wickets in T20I, breaking the record for best bowling figures in T20Is.

Malaysia secures easy win against China
Malaysia defeated China by eight wickets in the opening match of the ICC Mens T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier B 2023 on Wednesday, July 26 at Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur. They chased down the target of 24 runs in around five overs. They suffered early blows, with both openers, Syed Aziz and Muhammad Amir getting out for a duck. Further, Sharveen Surendran and Virandeep Singh ensured them to victory. Syazrul Idrus won the Player of the Match award for his record-breaking performance in the match.
