A 25-year-old man was arrested from Kolkata for threatening Indian pacer Mohammed Shami’s estranged wife Hasin Jahan, police confirmed on November 25 (Wednesday). Incidentally, Jahan shot the limelight after he brought a barrage of allegations against Shami for domestic abuse and having extramarital affairs last year.
Meanwhile, Hasin Jahan had filed a complaint after she received constant threat calls over the last two months, demanding money from her over the last two months. The man was arrested, whose name was not released by the police, from the Canning Station Road.
Hasin Jahan receives threats
The police revealed that it was Hasin Jahan’s former domestic help who started threatening and demanding money from the cricketer’s estranged wife. However, a couple of days later, it was domestic help’s son, who started making the calls.
“First it was Jahan’s former domestic help who started calling her, demanding money. Then it was a man, claiming to be the woman’s son,” he said. “He was demanding money and threatened that otherwise, he will post her personal photographs and mobile numbers on social media. The person also hurled abuses at her,” the police added.
Hasin Jahan had initially ignored the calls but when it became unbearable, she lodged a complaint on November 22. The woman has been in constant headlines since he launched attacks on Mohammed Shami. She has been a victim of religious bigotry a couple of times on social media platforms.
“Scanning both the numbers from where she was getting the calls, we picked up the accused on Tuesday night. A case has been started. We are also looking for the woman,” the officer said.
