Manoj Tiwary

Manoj Tiwary, the West Bengal Sports Minister recently smashed a hundred in the ongoing Ranji Trophy semi-final game between Bengal and Madhya Pradesh. The contest for a spot in the Finals of the tournament is going on at Karnataka State Cricket Association Ground, Alur, Bengaluru.

Tiwary, on Wednesday, June 16, hit his 29th first-class ton. He scored 102 runs off 211 deliveries, with 12 boundaries. After notching the century, Tiwary pulled out a letter from his pocket and put it in front of the cameras, to thank his family, for their unconditional support.

The letter was handwritten and it had the names of his wife and two children on it. The adorable gesture from the 36-year-old is winning hearts on social media and has gone viral.

Besides, Tiwary earlier had scored 73 and 136 runs against Jharkhand, in the quarter-final game. His heroics aided Abhimanyu Easwaran-led side to attain a spot in the semi-finals. Tiwary’s ton against Madhya Pradesh too came at a crucial stage of the game. When Tiwary came in to bat, Bengal had already lost a couple of wickets, in the early overs.

Manoj Tiwary’s First-Class Career

Tiwary has had a fabulous first-class career, so far. He has played 129 first-class games for Bengal. In 204 innings for his state side, Tiwary has scored 9289 runs, at an average of 49.94. The right-hand batter has notched 28 centuries and 39 half-centuries, with the highest score of 303*. Despite his impressive domestic stint, Tiwary has played only 12 One Day International games for India, scoring 287 runs, with a century against West Indies in Chennai, back in December 2011.

Meanwhile, in the ongoing semi-final derby, Madhya Pradesh seems to be leading the contest, on Day 3. On the other hand, in the 2nd semi-final, Mumbai is way ahead of Uttar Pradesh, eying another Ranji Trophy title.
