“Mashrafe has informed us of the issue,” said Minhajul Abedin, the chief selector of the Bangladesh Cricket Board to Dhaka Tribune. “His wife is severely ill and needs medical attention. The players of the ODI squad are set to travel Saturday so we will wait till then to hear from him, and then make a decision.”

If Mortaza misses, Shakib Al Hasan is expected to lead the squad. Bangladesh is already missing the services of their star bowler Mustafizur Rahman. If the skipper misses, it will really be a major loss for the side who are really looking for some quickfire motivation to turn the things around.

Windies decimated Bangladesh in the first test as they were bundled for just 43 in the first innings. In the process, they also became the first team to face the fewest number of overs in both the innings combined. The second test is currently being played at Jamaica and Windies are batting at 45/1.

In case Mortaza misses the ODI series, Shakib Al Hasan will in all likelihood fill in.

Bangladesh is playing with three spinners in the squad and it will be interesting if they can level the test series.
