Wicket-keeper batter Matthew Wade will lead the Australia squad in the T20I series against India. The five-match series kick-off on Thursday, November 23 at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam after the conclusion of the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Cricket Australia announced a 15-member squad for the series on Saturday, October 28.

Australia are without a permanent T20 skipper since Aaron Finch announced his retirement. Matthew Wade has been appointed as the captain on an interim basis. Mitchell Marsh, who led the team earlier this year against Australia is not part of the 15-member squad. He along with Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Cameron Green will head home after the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.

“It’s an experienced squad with a mixture of players who have had their first opportunity on the international stage and that we hope will continue to develop into important players in our T20 group,” said selection chief George Bailey.

George Bailey also spoke about Matthew Wade’s appointment as the captain. He expressed that it’s an opportunity to deepen the leadership experience of the team. Bailey said,

“Matthew has captained the team previously, is a leader in the group and we look forward to him taking the reins for this series. Like Mitch Marsh in the South Africa series, this is another great opportunity to further deepen our international leadership experience and depth.”.
