Former England captain Michael Vaughan has stated that Justin Langer’s contract should be extended by Cricket Australia for some more years. However, he also claimed that he would not mind Langer being appointed as the next England head coach.

Notably, the visitors have already lost the Ashes series where both the coach and the captain came under the scanner. Speaking to Fox Cricket, Michael Vaughan said:

“I would jump at the chance. Be careful what you wish for – that’s all I’ll say. The grass is not always greener, and Justin Langer, from what I see – he’s doing a fantastic job. If I was Cricket Australia, I’d sign him up for at least a couple more years.”

Meanwhile, Justin Langer’s position was in doubt too after the home series defeat to Team India last year. But the T20 World Cup win and the Ashes series victory may turn the table for him as well. Vaughan, however, stated that he would be happy to see Langer as the coach of the England Cricket team.

“He’d take all that information to make sure that in 2023, Australia go on to win the Ashes convincingly in English conditions because they’ve got the squad and the mentality around the group with Justin’s kind of leadership to go on and do so. But if you don’t want him, yeah, we’ll have him,” Michael Vaughan added.

England to decide on their head coach after Ashes

Meanwhile, former England captain, Andrew Strauss has been shared the responsibility with Chris Silverwood and their fate will be decided after the ongoing Ashes series is over.

On the other hand, Team Director Ashley Giles is being criticised for giving both Silverwood and Root the longer run despite England’s poor show in Test cricket since their series against India both home and away. They lost the series 2-1 in India and are currently trailing at home 1-2 with the postponed Manchester Test which is scheduled to be played later this year as well.
