IPL 2020: Michael Vaughan Left Impressed by Devdutt Padikkal

Young RCB batsman Devdutt Padikkal has been in good form in this IPL season. He has scored 417 runs in 12 matches so far and looks good to get to 500 runs. He has also scored four fifties in the process. Meanwhile, he has been able to impress former England skipper Michael Vaughan, who predicts that the young batsman will play for India for a long time.

The left-hander has given the team good starts in almost all the games. Even when he has failed to score the fifties, he has scored good 20s and 30s giving Royal Challengers Bangalore good starts, which they lacked in earlier seasons.

Michael Vaughan took to microblogging Twitter, to praise the youngster, who has been hailed as the future of India.

“Devdutt Padikkal looks the type of player we will see representing @BCCI for many many years … Incredible young all-round player …,” Michael Vaughan wrote.

The left-handed batsman finished as the top-scorer in both the 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy last season. In the latter, the 20-year-old opener scored 580 runs at a strike rate of 175.75 and struck a 50-plus score every two innings on average.

RCB, meanwhile, is second on the points table with seven wins under their belt. They lost their last game against Mumbai Indians on Thursday which has just pegged them back a bit.

Their skipper Virat Kohli was involved in a face-off with Suryakumar Yadav. This did not go well with cricket experts and fans alike as they criticised him for his actions.

“It was a phenomenal match. The innings played by Suryakumar Yadav was incredible. He showed Virat Kohli that he isn’t inferior to anyone (in reference to the selection snub for the Australia tour). There was a moment where Suryakumar played a shot towards Kohli and then two had a stare-off where the former asserted once again that he doesn’t fear anything or anyone,” said Sehwag.
