Newly appointed Kings XI Punjab skipper KL Rahul admitted that he was keenly looking forward to this year’s IPL. Notably, BCCI had to postpone the tournament in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, the tournament was scheduled to commence from March 29. But with Government of India imposing a countrywide lockdown, BCCI had no option other than deferring the 13th edition of IPL.

Missed playing in IPL – KL Rahul

The KXIP franchise appointed the Team India star as their skipper after Ravichandran Ashwin shifted his base to Delhi. It is a great opportunity for the wicket-keeper batsman to lead a bunch of exciting cricketers. The Kings XI is one of the few franchises yet to lift the title and hoped to end their barren run.

As KL Rahul waits to make his debut as skipper, the flamboyant cricketer admitted that he missed playing in IPL. The cricketer from Karnataka also admitted that Punjab had some of the heavyweights in their ranks this time around.

“I actually have missed the IPL a lot. It was going to be a big season for me captaining the team and I felt like we have got some really really exciting players in the line-up,” KL Rahul told teammate Mayank Agarwal during the show ‘Open Nets with Mayank’ which was uploaded on IPL’s official website.

“I was really looking forward to playing with Chris and you and Maxi and a few other guys coming in,” he added.

KL Rahul will have his task cut as Kings XI Punjab didn’t have exciting seasons in the last few years. Since reaching the finals in 2014, they haven’t progressed from the group stages.

Meanwhile, BCCI is currently looking forward to ICC decision on the T20 World Cup. If the global body decides to postpone the event in Australia, a window will open in September-October.
