Australian speedster Mitchell Starc has vowed not to alter his strategy in the future in order to make the starting eleven. The left-arm paceman believes that Australia’s one-dimensional bowling attack results from him compromising on his own abilities.
Josh Hazlewood’s superior ability to manage the flow of runs during the 2019 Ashes series led the head coach at the time, Justin Langer, to decide to bench Starc for the first three Tests.
The bowler for New South Wales claimed that while he understands if certain matchups or playing conditions prevent him from participating, he will not alter his strategy.
He stated, as reported by The Age: “I’ve discovered that I shouldn’t alter my style to fit in with a team. It’s okay if I’m not in the starting lineup due to circumstances or matchups because my skill set supports our entire attack. Never will I be able to bowl as well as Scott, Josh, or Pat. Why should I alter my methods to match theirs in order to fit into an XI?
He then continued: “If that means that at certain points I’m not in the XI, that’s okay, but I think that’s one thing I learned from the past. I tried to be this economical bowler who can hit a spot because I wasn’t in the XI. I’m not the one who said that. I may have attempted a few more runs, but my strike rate was lower or my bowling length was different. “
Ben Stokes was one of the three victims Starc took out in the first innings of the fourth Test in Manchester during the 2019 leg. He followed it up with one in the second, and Australia won by 185 runs to lead 2-1 with absolute certainty.
Mitchell Starc said, “I hurt myself more trying to fit in.”.
The 33-year-old believed Australia lost out on a chance four years ago because claiming the Ashes would have been more satisfying. He acknowledged that the veteran players deserved to win in England this year.”
“I’ve learned to stop getting so angry about it, he said. You want to participate in all the games, sure, but sticking to my strengths is better for me than trying to fit in. It was quite special to be able to keep the Ashes. However, you aim to prevail. The back end is where we are all headed. The newest is Pat. Our group has been working together for a while. It would be a fantastic way to wrap up playing cricket in England, if this is the last time the older guys get together.”
