Former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar heaped praise on Shubman Gill who has been in terrific form in the ongoing 2023 Indian Premier League. The Gujarat Titans batter slammed his third century of the season on Friday, May 26 against the Mumbai Indians at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. His knock powered to franchise to an emphatic win and sail through to the finals.
Shubman Gill smashed 129 runs off just 60 deliveries, with seven boundaries and ten sixes. He is not the orange cap holder in the season, with 851 runs in sixteen matches. The opener has three centuries and four fifties to his name so far in the tournament. Following his brilliant knock against Mumbai Indians, Sunil Gavaskar expressed that Sky is the Limit for the right-handed batter. Speaking to Star Sports, he said,
“It is very difficult to find more adjectives apart from saying that the cricketing world is at his feet. The sky is the limit for him. That’s all I can say.”
“And his feet really. The certainty of the feet’ movement. The certainty of playing forward and back, that’s so important and essential for a good batter. At the same time, keep your balance as well and that’s what he does. If he keeps doing that, runs are going to flow. Because there is a correctness about his cricket and a correctness about his batting. You sometimes feel like he has played across the line. He hasn’t really played across the line. He has played at the very last moment. He hasn’t been wild trying to play across the line,” added Sunil Gavaskar.

Former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar further expressed that Shubman Gill has improved with every innings in the 2023 Indian Premier League. The opener missed out on a century earlier in the tournament against the Lucknow Super Giants. However, he has made up for it with three centuries in the last four innings. Sunil Gavaskar stated that Shubman Gill’s form is good news for the franchise as well as Indian cricket.
“This is the third century he has got in this IPL. He has improved with every innings. Now he has got 129, the highest score in this year’s IPL. So the sky is the limit and he is going up and up. So that’s good news for not just for Gujarat Titans, but for Indian cricket.”
