MLC 2023: [WATCH] Finn Allen’s Schoolboy Error Costs Him His Wicket

Finn Allen’s unusual dismissal during the 2023 Major League Cricket (MLC) match between the San Francisco Unicorns (SFU) and Seattle Orcas (SEO) has become an internet sensation, surprising cricket fans worldwide.

In the fourth over of SFU’s run-chase, Cameron Gannon, the fast bowler for SEO, bowled the second ball to Allen. After playing a defensive shot towards midfield, Allen seemed to take a casual stroll.

However, Shehan Jayasuriya showed remarkable awareness, quickly picking up the ball and hitting the stumps directly, catching Allen off guard and out of his crease. While the fielders found humour in the situation and shared a laugh, Allen was visibly stunned and bewildered by the unexpected turn of events.

Commentator Alan Wilkins expressed his disappointment with the young New Zealand player, describing the dismissal as “comedy.” This incident added to Allen’s consecutive disappointments, following his score of 10 (5) against MI New York in SFU’s opening game of the tournament.

The match result favoured SEO, as they defeated SFU by 35 runs. SEO set a competitive total of 177 for four wickets in their 20 overs, despite the disciplined bowling efforts of Carmi le Roux (4-0-29-0) and Marcus Stoinis (4-0-28-0).

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Wayne Parnell’s decision paid off, with the Orcas’ batsmen delivering a strong performance. The standout performance came from Heinrich Klaasen, who scored a crucial 53 runs off just 31 balls.

In response, SFU struggled to build partnerships and was eventually bowled out for 142 runs in 17.5 overs. Shadab Khan put up a notable resistance, scoring 37 runs off 23 balls, but the lack of substantial support from other SFU batters led to their downfall.
