Mohammad Hafeez Might Take Over Inzamam-ul-Haq As The Chief Selector For PCB: Reports

Ex-Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez is the leading candidate to take over as the chairman of the senior selection committee, a position recently left vacant by Inzamam-ul-Haq.

Ex-Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez is a top contender for the chairman position of the senior selection committee, recently left vacant by Inzamam-ul-Haq due to ‘Conflict of Interest’ allegations.

A PCB source mentioned that another former Test captain, Younis Khan, might also secure a significant role in the national setup. Both ex-captains, along with current players Wahab Riaz and Sohail Tanvir, had a meeting with Zaka Ashraf, the head of PCB’s cricket management committee in Lahore on Tuesday.

Zaka had an individual meeting with Younis and reportedly suggested that he think about accompanying the team to Australia and New Zealand for the Test and T20 series.

Additionally, Zaka spoke to other former cricket greats via video link on Tuesday, who are currently in Karachi and occupied with media engagements.

Babar is called for a meeting on Wednesday

It is reported that Babar Azam, facing criticism, has been called for a meeting to address the team’s disappointing World Cup performance, finishing in fifth place.

“Zaka has called embattled captain, Babar Azam for a meeting on Wednesday in which most probably the batsman will be given another chance to lead the team in Australia and New Zealand,” the PCB insider said.

He also mentioned that the majority of ex-players have recommended to Zaka to retain Babar for the present.

The source mentioned that Zaka was suggested to observe Babar’s captaincy during the Australia and New Zealand tours. If the team’s performance remains unsatisfactory, changes can be considered before the next World T20 Cup.

The PCB source also mentioned that team director and coach Mickey Arthur, along with head coach Grant Bradburn, have been invited to join the meeting alongside Babar.

Zaka has emphasized that he won’t make rushed decisions or react impulsively following the World Cup disappointment. He intends to consult with former players before deciding on the next steps.
