Team India led by Virat Kohli has been a very dominant side in the red-ball format. However, South Africa, New Zealand, and England still remain an unconquered territory. Fast bowler Mohammed Shami recently opened up on why they lost the series against the Proteas in 2018.
India had landed in South Africa on the back of consistent performance. With the kind of pace bowling they possessed, many thought that they can beat the Proteas on their own backyard. However, it wasn’t the case as the home side came hard on the visiting team.

The likes of Vernon Philander and Lungi Ngidi did exceedingly well to win the first two of the three-match encounter to wrap up the series. India bounced back in the third and final game to pull one back but by then the series was gone leaving the cricketers in distress. The fast bowlers did exceedingly well with Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar dominating the proceedings but the batters failed to back them with good scores on the board.
Speaking on that series, fast bowler Mohammed Shami rued India’s poor batting technique as the reason behind the defeat. Shami was speaking to the swashbuckling India opener Rohit Sharma, who echoed the same sentiments as of the former.

India managed to post 209 and 135 runs in the first Test while their highest score in the series came in the first innings of the second Test where Virat Kohli smashed 153 in Centurion. The openers had an awful time throughout the series along with Cheteshwar Pujara.
Since then, India have registered a historic series win against Australia down under and have gone from strength to strength at home. After reigning the ICC Test Rankings for four years, the Aussies finally dethroned India yesterday from the top spot. India currently sit in third place with New Zealand occupying the second place.
