Star Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami is set to seek consultation in England for his lingering ankle injury, which has sidelined him since the ODI World Cup in 2023. Despite bravely playing through the injury during the World Cup, where he emerged as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with an impressive tally of 24 wickets in seven matches, Shami’s recovery has been a persistent process.

The National Cricket Academy’s (NCA) medical team has been monitoring Shami’s progress, expressing satisfaction with his recovery. Eager to make a comeback, the 33-year-old fast bowler began training after being initially ruled out of the Test series against South Africa, eyeing a return in the five-match Test series against England. Unfortunately, his rehabilitation progress didn’t align with the schedule, leading to his exclusion from the squad for the first two Tests against England.

Reports indicate that Shami, accompanied by Nitin Patel, the head of the Sports Science department at the NCA, will soon travel to London to consult with an expert regarding his ankle injury. Additionally, there is speculation that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) might send wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant to London for further consultations.

Pant, recovering from a car crash in December 2022, has been making significant strides in his rehabilitation at the NCA and is expected to make a comeback during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

In the realm of injuries, Mumbai batter Prithvi Shaw, nursing a knee injury, faces another month of rehabilitation at the NCA. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) aims for his return during the knockout stages of the Ranji Trophy, following an injury sustained while playing in the Royal London One Day Cup for Northamptonshire against Durham in August 2023. The road to recovery for these cricketing talents adds a layer of anticipation to their eventual comebacks.
