Mohammed Siraj Responds To ICC Fine After Altercation With Travis Head

India’s pacer Mohammed Siraj remained composed after being fined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for his fiery send-off to Australian batter Travis Head during the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Adelaide. Siraj was penalized 20% of his match fee, amounting to approximately INR 9 lakh, and received a demerit point.

The altercation occurred during Australia’s commanding 10-wicket victory in the Day-Night Test, where Head had scored a stunning 140 off 141 balls before falling to Siraj. Despite the tension, both players later resolved their differences with a handshake and a hug during the post-match ceremony.

Siraj’s Calm Reaction
When questioned about the incident, Siraj dismissed the fine as inconsequential, stating, “Yeah man, it’s all good.” He appeared unfazed and shifted his focus to preparing for the upcoming third Test at the Gabba in Brisbane. Speaking to reporters in Adelaide, Siraj mentioned heading to the gym instead of dwelling on the controversy.

His relaxed attitude underscored his readiness to move forward and face the next challenge against Australia. Notably, the heated exchange during the match was downplayed by both Siraj and Head, with the latter referring to it as a mere misunderstanding.

Travis Head Clears the Air
Following the game, Travis Head echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that the issue had been resolved amicably. Speaking to ABC Sport, he described the altercation as a minor misunderstanding. “Sweet with it,” Head remarked. “He came out and just said it was a little bit of misunderstanding … I think we’ll move on.” Both players agreed there were no lingering hard feelings, ensuring that the competitive spirit of the series remained intact without unnecessary animosity.

This incident added another layer of intensity to the Test series, but Siraj’s focus and maturity, coupled with Head’s sportsmanship, set the stage for a competitive third Test at the Gabba starting December 14.
