Pakistani pacer Shaheen Afridi made history in the first T20I against South Africa on Tuesday, December 10, by becoming the first player from Pakistan to take 100 wickets across all three formats.
Before the match, Shaheen had 97 T20I wickets. He delivered an impressive performance, taking three wickets for 22 runs in his four overs, bringing his total to 100 wickets in 74 matches.
With his stellar 3/22 performance, the 24-year-old left-arm pacer reached his 100th T20I wicket, adding to his 112 wickets in ODIs and 116 in Tests. Shaheen became the third Pakistani bowler to achieve 100 T20I wickets, joining Haris Rauf and Shadab Khan.
He reached this milestone in his 74th T20I, making him the second-fastest Pakistani to do so after Haris Rauf, who reached it in 71 matches. Additionally, Shaheen became the youngest bowler globally to take 100 wickets across all formats, joining the elite group of New Zealand’s Tim Southee, Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, and Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga.

David Miller and George Linde’s key contributions helped South Africa set a solid total
South Africa won the toss and chose to bat first at Kingsmead, Durban, but they had a poor start, losing Rassie van der Dussen for a golden duck in the opening over. Reeza Hendricks (8) and Matthew Breetzke (8) followed soon after, leaving the hosts at 28 for three.
Captain Heinrich Klaasen (12) and Donovan Ferreira (7) also struggled, but David Miller played a brilliant knock, keeping the run rate steady. Miller hit three consecutive sixes off Abrar Ahmed in the 10th over and reached his fifty in just 28 balls.
Miller finished with an explosive 82 off 40 balls, including four boundaries and eight sixes. George Linde added a quick-fire 48 off 24 balls, guiding South Africa to 183 for nine in their 20 overs. Shaheen Afridi and Abrar Ahmed took three wickets each for the visitors.
