Mohsin Naqvi Breaks Silence on India’s No-Handshake Policy: “We Respect Their Choice”
Mohsin Naqvi Silent on Pakistan’s Tri-Series Proposal with India

Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has offered a candid response to India’s continued “no-handshake” policy against Pakistan in international cricket. Speaking to the media, Naqvi made it clear that Pakistan has chosen not to escalate the matter and will respect whatever stance India decides to take.

Since the Asia Cup, Indian teams have refrained from post-match handshakes with Pakistan as a symbolic protest following the Pahalgam terror attack. Addressing the issue directly, Naqvi stated that Pakistan is not seeking symbolic gestures and is prepared to move forward without them if that is India’s preference.

“We Have No Particular Desire to Do So Either”

Naqvi’s comments were blunt yet measured, underlining Pakistan’s intention to avoid unnecessary controversy. He stressed that cricket should remain focused on competition rather than ceremonial formalities. “If India doesn’t want to shake hands, we have no particular desire to do so either,” Naqvi said, reinforcing the idea that Pakistan is not offended by the absence of handshakes.

He added that Pakistan’s approach is rooted in mutual respect, even if diplomatic or political tensions influence on-field behavior. According to him, Pakistan will not insist on gestures that the other side is uncomfortable with and will continue to conduct itself professionally on the field.

Cricket First, Symbolism Second

Emphasising equality and sporting spirit, Naqvi noted that Pakistan will compete with India on an equal footing, regardless of off-field dynamics. He reiterated that Pakistan respects India’s position and does not intend to politicise cricket further. “We respect their stance, and we will continue with the same approach,” he said, signalling consistency in Pakistan’s response.

Naqvi also highlighted that Pakistan’s focus remains on performance and discipline rather than symbolic acts that could distract from the game itself. His remarks suggest that, from Pakistan’s perspective, cricketing contests should be judged by skill and conduct on the field, not by whether formal gestures are exchanged afterward.

Overall, Naqvi’s statement reflects a pragmatic stance aimed at de-escalation. By acknowledging India’s choice without confrontation, the PCB chief has positioned Pakistan as willing to let actions on the pitch speak louder than ceremonial traditions.
