MS Dhoni has been playing international cricket for 14 years now. Undoubtedly, he has faced myriads of bowlers since his entry and the bowlers definitely struggled against his big hitting abilities. But who actually troubled one of the greatest finishers of the generation?
In his 453 international matches across all formats so far, MS Dhoni admitted that it was Shoaib Akhtar who troubled him the most. It was quite obvious it was going to be a quickie.
MS Dhoni would have played thousands of great spinners before and during his international spree. After all, the Indian subcontinent produces great spinners every year, something which the west lacks!
“All the fast bowlers are quite difficult, with the limited technique I had, it was very difficult to face the fast bowlers,” MS Dhoni explained at a charity dinner hosted by the Indian skipper Virat Kohli. “Still, if I had to pick one, I would pick Shoaib Akhtar.” Dhoni and Akthar played against each other in only 5 ODIs and 5 tests and stats prove Akthar got the better of MS Dhoni.
“Very simple reason: he was quick, he was fast, he could bowl a yorker, he could bowl a bouncer but you never expected a beamer,” the former Indian skipper justified. ” He was a bit unpredictable (but) he was fun to play against.
