MS Dhoni Seeks Trademark For Popular Nickname Post IPL 2025

Former India captain and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend MS Dhoni has officially trademarked his popular nickname ‘Captain Cool’. The 43-year-old earned this title from fans due to his calm and composed nature on the field throughout his captaincy career.

As per the Intellectual Property of India’s official website, the trademark was formally published in the trademark journal on June 16, 2025. The trademark covers goods and services related to sports training, the provision of sports training facilities, and sports coaching services.

Notably, Indian cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar has secured trademarks for both his name and signature. Similarly, star batter Virat Kohli has trademarked his name as well, in addition to his brand ‘One8’, which is registered under CSE Consulting LLP.

MS Dhoni led CSK as stand-in captain in IPL 2025 after Gaikwad was sidelined

After leading CSK to five IPL titles, MS Dhoni stepped down as captain before IPL 2024, handing over the role to Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, he returned as skipper in IPL 2025 after Gaikwad got injured five matches in.

CSK had a poor season, winning only 4 of 14 games and finishing last for the first time. Dhoni scored 196 runs in 13 innings with a strike rate of 135.17. After their final match, Dhoni was asked about his IPL future.

“I have 4-5 months to decide, there’s no hurry to decide what needs to be done.Every year it’s 15% more effort to keep the body fit. You have to be at your best, this is top level cricket. It’s professional cricket. It’s not always performance you can count. If cricketers start retiring because of their performances, some of them will retire at the age of 22.”

“What matters is your fitness, hunger, and whether the team needs you. I have time to decide. I’ll go back to Ranchi, enjoy some bike rides, and think about it. I’m not saying I’m done, nor confirming a comeback. I have the luxury of time.”
