Following the resounding success of its debut season, anticipation is high within the cricket community for the upcoming second edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). The Mumbai Indians, champions of the inaugural tournament after a convincing victory over the Delhi Capitals in the final, have introduced their jersey for the 2024 season.

Crafted by renowned designer Monisha Jaising, the jersey maintains the iconic blue and gold colours synonymous with the Mumbai Indians. The team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, will officially unveil the jersey on February 23rd. In the previous season, Mumbai Indians demonstrated their dominance by winning six out of eight matches in the round-robin phase, securing a spot in the Eliminator.

English all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt emerged as the top scorer for the franchise, amassing 332 runs in 10 innings with an impressive average of 66.40 and a strike rate of 140.08.

Mumbai Indians in an official statement said: “The jersey’s print is inspired by the shades of blue of the feathers on the peacock’s neck and breast that show a characteristic colour and size gradient. The coral-peach colour is inspired by the central part of the feather called the stem, which belongs to the coral-brown palette. The gradient pattern takes inspiration from natural geometric and colour gradient seen on the neck and breast feathers of the peacock.”

Harmanpreet Kaur and Hayley Matthews also made significant contributions with 281 and 271 runs respectively. Matthews, additionally, distinguished herself as one of the leading wicket-takers in the tournament, claiming 16 wickets at an average of 12.62. Her outstanding performances earned her the Player of the Series accolade for her all-round prowess.

The seasoned trio of Harmanpreet, Hayley, and Sciver-Brunt will look to mentor and motivate the younger talents in the squad as they strive to defend their title. With their collective experience and skill, they aim to guide the franchise towards another successful campaign in the Women’s Premier League.
