In a press release by Mumbai Indians franchise, they have announced to release players include Saurabh Tiwary, Pradeep Sangwan, Mohsin Khan, MD Nidheesh, Sharad Lumba, Tajinder Singh Dhillion, JP Duminy, Pat Cummins, Mustafizur Rahman and mystery spinner from Sri Lanka Akila Danajaya. Under the captaincy of Rohit, Mumbai Indians have won IPL title 3 times.

Mumbai Indians failed to reach the knockout stage in last year’s IPL. The list of retained of players for Mumbai Indians are Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Krunal Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Mayank Markande, Rahul Chahar, Anukul Roy, Siddesh Lad, Aditya Tare, Kieron Pollard, Ben Cutting, Mitchell McClenaghan, Adam Milne, Jason Behrendoff, Evin Lewis.
Mumbai Indians did not make an impression in last year’s IPL edition finishing 5th on the points table with six wins. These top players who have been retained for IPL performed decently for Mumbai Indians last year but could not help Mumbai Indians to reach the knockout stage.
Out of these released players, Akila Danajaya played only 1 match scoring just 4 runs and gave away 47 runs. JP Duminy also could not perform according to expectation scoring just 36 runs from 6 matches.
