Veteran wicket-keeper batsman Naman Ojha has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket with immediate effect on February 15, 2021 (Monday). The 37-year-old represented India across all three formats, playing one Test, one ODI, and two T20Is.

A stalwart in domestic cricket, Naman Ojha has represented Madhya Pradesh for two decades. He played 146 first-class games, scoring 9753 runs at an average of 41.67, scoring 22 centuries, 55 fifties, and a highest of 219*. He also featured in 143 List A games and 182 T20s, which included 113 IPL appearances – for Delhi Daredevils, Rajasthan Royals, and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Naman Ojha bids farewell

Ojha’s run riot with the bat for India A on the 2014 tour of Australia, when he scored three consecutive centuries, including a double-century, in the first-class games. That came after a prolific season in 2013-14 when he scored 835 runs in seven Ranji Trophy matches.

This earned him a Test call-up as a replacement for Wriddhiman Saha, who was the reserve for MS Dhoni in the longest format of the game. Naman Ojha thus became Madhya Pradesh’s first Test cricketer since leg-spinner Narendra Hirwani.

While all his limited-overs internationals were played in 2010 during India’s tour of Zimbabwe, his only Test appearance came in 2015, against Sri Lanka, in Colombo. Naman Ojha failed to impress on all occasions thus failing to extend his international career.
