The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing to enforce stricter disciplinary rules and tighter access-control measures during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season after several incidents sparked concerns over security breaches and violations of anti-corruption protocols.
“We are forced to issue guidelines in this season of IPL. And We saw many incidents which makes the board uncomfortable. We are in talks with IPL franchises to ensure no untoward incidents happen again. There has been lots of indiscipline in this IPL,” a BCCI source told ANI on Tuesday.
The latest move comes just days after BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla revealed that the board was drafting new rules to regulate player access and prevent unauthorised interactions in hotels, team buses, and other secure zones during the tournament.
Speaking in Lucknow last week, Shukla said the steps were being introduced to improve transparency and reinforce the league’s integrity system.
“The access that the players have will be controlled; unauthorised people will not be allowed to meet the players, neither in hotels nor on buses, to ensure the transparency of the IPL,” he had said.
BCCI Flags Security Breaches After Unauthorised Access to IPL Teams and Hotels
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had earlier raised concerns over what he described as “anomalies and irregularities” involving players, franchise representatives, and outsiders during the tournament.
Saikia stated that the board had noticed multiple cases of unauthorised individuals accompanying team members, entering team hotels, and even gaining access to the rooms of players and officials — actions considered a clear breach of the IPL’s anti-corruption rules.
He also pointed out that some franchise owners and officials were seen meeting players in restricted areas where such interactions are not allowed under tournament guidelines. The current season has already seen disciplinary measures in several instances.
Riyan Parag, captain of Rajasthan Royals, was fined 25 per cent of his match fee and received a demerit point after being spotted vaping inside the dressing room during a match against Punjab Kings.
In a separate incident, Ravinder Singh Bhinder, manager of Rajasthan Royals, was fined Rs 1 lakh for using a mobile phone near the dugout during a game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Guwahati.
