The second ODI between India and Australian women ended with a no-ball controversy in the final over of the match. Jhulan Goswami bowled a waist-high full toss which was ruled a no-ball with the Aussie batter smacking the ball for a four to win the game for his side. Australia have also won the series 2-0 piling the misery on the Indian cricket team.

The Indian cricketers crumbled under pressure with the side giving away overthrows and missing crucial catches in the contest. The no-ball was called with three required off the final ball from Jhulan and the Australian batters getting the job done. Even seasoned veterans like Jhulan and Mithali couldn’t handle the pressure as the opposition won by five wickets.

Both the captains acknowledged the fact that it was a closely contested game and played in a good spirit. The no-ball call, however, was the highlight of the contest.

No-Ball Controversy in Women’s Game

“This was a great game of cricket from both the teams. It was a great cricket display with almost 550 runs scored. We still want to win the next game, I don’t say it’s a dead rubber. The batting department has done well, Smriti and Richa have played well. For me it was a nervous last ball, because anything could have happened. Didn’t expect a no-ball, but it’s a game after all. We were edge of our seats on the last ball. We definitely will continue to put up a show like we did today” said Mithali Raj.

“We obviously lost early wickets as there was movement out there, but I thought India bowled pretty well.  Wanted to get it down to nine or ten (run-rate) in the last 10 overs and we managed to do that. The way the game finished, it was quite incredible. We got that depth in the team, we got that batting and bowling and you have seen that in the first two games. A batter going up from number 5 to open the innings, this shows the versatility in the group. India played well for majority of the game, but we found out a way and win. It’s certainly the most eventful game we have played in this winning streak. Very lucky to come out on top today. We are looking forward to a really good contest in the third game” said Aussie skipper Meg Lanning.
