Sarfaraz Khan has undergone an incredible physical transformation, losing almost 17 kilograms in a short span. His father, Naushad Khan, shared details of their intense diet plan that brought about this change. Before India A’s tour of England, Sarfaraz had already shed around 10 kilos, and he has continued to lose weight since then.
According to Naushad, the key change was eliminating roti and rice from their meals. “We have controlled our diet a lot. We have stopped eating roti, rice, etc. We haven’t eaten roti or rice at home for 1 to 1.5 months. We eat broccoli, carrot, cucumber, salad, and green vegetable salad. Along with that, we eat grilled fish, grilled chicken, boiled chicken, boiled egg, etc. We are also having green tea and green coffee,” he told.
Naushad also stressed the importance of cutting out sugar, flour, and all bakery products. “We eat avocados also. There are sprouts also. But the main thing is that we have stopped eating roti and rice. We have stopped eating sugar. We have stopped eating maida (flour) and bakery items.” The entire family joined the dietary shift, with Naushad also losing 12 kilos. His motivation was a knee surgery he wants to delay by improving his health through weight loss.
Sarfaraz’s Commitment to Fitness
This significant lifestyle shift has not gone unnoticed. Former England captain Kevin Pietersen praised Sarfaraz, saying that a focus on fitness could boost his success in cricket. Sarfaraz is continuing to push for better fitness, showing immense discipline in following the new meal plan.
“He has almost lost 10 kgs within 1.5 months. He is working on reducing his weight even further. I have reduced 12 kgs myself because I had a knee issue. So, I also benefited from it. The doctor told me that I have to do a knee replacement. So, I told him that I had to delay it. He told me that I have to reduce my weight for that,” said Naushad.
A Promising Yet Uncertain Career
Sarfaraz Khan has been a prolific run-scorer in domestic cricket, especially for Mumbai. In 2024, he finally got his chance to represent India in the home Test series against England, where his batting caught attention. Despite his promising performances, he hasn’t secured a regular spot in the national team.
Although he was part of the squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, he didn’t play any matches. However, his recent performances for India A, including a century against the England Lions, have kept hopes alive for a stronger comeback.
