Cheteshwar Pujara’s poor run of form is continuing in England too. He was out for just four in his very first innings on this trip. He got a peach of a delivery from James Anderson which took the edge of his bat and Jos Buttler completed a simple catch. India lost three quick wickets in the second session before rain played spoilsport. Virat Kohli’s men finally ended the day on 125/4 from being 97 for no loss at one point.

Meanwhile, Aakash Chopra in his analysis of the second day’s play said that Cheteshwar Pujara was very unlucky to be dismissed in the manner that he did. Chopra further said that there is no shame in getting out to good deliveries as well.

“James Anderson sent back Cheteshwar Pujara with a very good delivery. There is no shame in getting out to good deliveries but the problem here is that Pujara is getting too many of them. That is something that will be playing on his mind. Questions like – why is this happening with me? Am I allowing the good balls to happen or is there something like I am just unfortunate? That is the question that Pujara has to answer” said Pujara in his Youtube video.

Meanwhile, both Pujara and Virat Kohli have not hit Test centuries for a long while. Cheteshwar Pujara’s last Test century was against Australia in Sydney in 2019. Virat Kohli’s last Test ton came against Bangladesh in the Pink-Ball Test in 2019 as well.

Indian cricket fans are continuing to wait for both of them to break their century drought hopefully in this series against England. Since the start of 2020, Pujara has featured in 12 Tests (including the ongoing Nottingham Test) and has only managed 531 runs at an average of under 26. In the same period, Kohli has scored just 345 runs in nine Tests at an average of 23.
