“Not Sure We’ll Come Back To Australia”- Rohit Sharma Hits 121 And Drops Big Hint

Team India opener Rohit Sharma revealed that his brilliant century in the third ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), which sealed the series with a commanding win, could potentially mark his and Virat Kohli’s final outing in Australia. The iconic duo delivered a batting clinic, stitching together an unbeaten 168-run stand to chase down the 236-run target and guide India to a nine-wicket victory.

Both Rohit and Kohli made their much-anticipated return to international cricket after a seven-month break, amid speculation about their futures. Their comeback didn’t start smoothly, as both failed to reach double digits in the opening match in Perth. While Rohit bounced back with a solid knock in Adelaide, Kohli endured another rare setback, registering his second straight duck in the series.

With India’s next scheduled ODI tour to Australia not expected until 2027–28 as per the Future Tours Programme, this dominant display might very well have been the pair’s last in the country. Speaking after the game to Adam Gilchrist and Ravi Shastri, Rohit hinted at the emotional significance of the match, suggesting it could be the end of an era for the two legends on Australian soil.

“I’ve always loved coming here, I enjoy playing cricket here in Australia. Fond memories of 2008 and nice way to finish, getting that knock and getting that win. I don’t know if we will be coming back to Australia, but it was fun all the years that we played here. Lot of good memories, bad memories, but all in all, I’ll take the cricket that I have played here,” Rohit Sharma said.

“Kohli and I still have fire, always start fresh”- Rohit

Rohit Sharma remarked that despite their age, the experienced duo still have plenty of fire and determination left in them, showcasing it with their match-winning performances.

“It looks like it. Yes, we enjoy our cricket. Most importantly, no matter what accolades we have achieved, it is important that whenever you get an opportunity to play, you have got to come and start fresh. That is what we did when we arrived in Perth. Forget what has happened in the last 15-17 years, and start afresh,” he added.

Rohit Sharma bagged both the Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards, finishing as the top run-scorer in the three-match series.
