Former India cricketer Suresh Raina is confident of Team India’s chances at the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup which will take place later this year in India. He was part of India’s 2011 World Cup win at home when they defeated Sri Lanka in the final to lift their second ODI World Champions title. it won’t matter who they play. Raina feels India can repeat the performance in the upcoming championship.
Team India will kick off their campaign in the 2023 World Cup against Australia on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. They haven’t won an ICC title since the 2013 Champions Trophy and will be keen to break the jinx this time. Suresh Raina feels Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav will be the trump cards for the team in the tournament. Bumrah has played three ODIs after his return from injury, while Kuldeep Yadav has been in great form in the ongoing Asia Cup.
“Koi bhi aaye, dekh lenge. (Doesn’t matter against whom they play). I think Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav will be India’s trump cards in the World Cup,” said Suresh Raina to TOI.
India’s top three have to fire: Suresh Raina
Former cricketer Suresh Raina further analysed India’s batting order for the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup. He expressed that much will rely on the top three, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli. He also praised Virat Kohli and added that the veteran batter needs to fire to better India’s chances of winning the World Cup. Raina said,
“Virat Kohli, and (Shubman) Gill, agar woh teenon perform karengey (if the three of them perform), then we have a very good middle-order. We have Hardik Pandya, we have Ishan Kishan, then we have (Ravindra) Jadeja, Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur. The top three have to fire, especially Virat Kohli. He is a gun player, he is batting pretty well. If he stays probably 35-40 overs, we will have a good chance.”
