New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson showered praise on batter Suryakumar Yadav, who slammed a century in the second T20I against the Kiwis on Sunday, November 20 at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. Suryakumar Yadav’s knock powered his team to a good total. Team India eventually won the match by a huge margin of 65 runs, going one-up in the three-match T20I series.

The Indian batter pulled off a great batting show in the match. He smashed 111 runs off just 51 deliveries, including eleven boundaries and seven sixes, at a strike rate of 217.65. This is Suryakumar Yadav’s second century in T20Is. He is the leading run-scorer in the format this year and is also the highest-ranked batter in T20I. Team India put on 191 runs on the back of Suryakumar Yadav’s terrific knock.

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson expressed that Suryakumar Yadav’s innings was “out of this world”. Speaking at the post-match presentation, he said,

“It was not our best effort. Surya’s innings was out of this world. One of the best knocks I’ve ever seen. Some of those shots, I’ve never seen before. They were outstanding, but we weren’t up to mark. We didn’t get momentum with the ball, didn’t get enough wickets, and didn’t get momentum with the bat either.”

Suryakumar Yadav is the best player in the world: Kane Williamson

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson further expressed that Suryakumar Yadav’s innings was the difference between the two teams in the second T20I. He termed the Indian cricketer as “the best player in the world”. Williamson added that New Zealand needs to focus on a few areas, and improve for the upcoming game.

“It was frustrating. Again, I’ll say about Suryakumar, his innings was the difference. It did swing a bit (in the chase) and India did well to get some swing. Important to look at those few areas and improve. Need to look at the small margins. Sometimes, a special inning can happen, Surya is the best player in the world,” said Kane Williamson.

New Zealand was bowled out for a paltry 126 runs in around 19 overs. Kane Williamson was the highest scorer in the inning, with 61 runs off 52 deliveries. Meanwhile, Deepak Hooda was the pick of the bowlers for India. He took four wickets conceding just 10 runs, at an economy rate of 3.5. However, Suryakumar Yadav won the Player of the Match for his outstanding century, which set the tone for India.
