The second day of the 2nd Test match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand saw two New Zealand batters create history played at Basin Reserve, Wellington on 18 March 2023.
Starting on the overnight score of 155 for 2, Kane Williamson looked solid with good shots along with Nicholls. Williamson reached his fifty off 106 deliveries while Nicholls showed his class after a string of low scores. He completed a half-century off 79 balls to keep New Zealand in complete control.
Both New Zealand batters kept the momentum going not allowing the Lankan bowlers to settle. Before the lunch break, Williamson completed his century off 171 deliveries.
After the lunch break, Williamson and Nicholls continued their dominating style of play. Williamson continued his merry way completing his 150 off 231 deliveries. Nicholls looked solid and completed his century off 173 deliveries to keep the scoreboard ticking for New Zealand.
Williamson and Nicholls showed their domination as they went into the tea break in a dominating position at 443 for 2. Kane Williamson showed his class with a well complied double century off 285 balls to keep NZ on course for a massive total. Henry Nicholls reached 150 off 212 deliveries before launching an assault completing his maiden double-century off 240 balls.
Kane Williamson was eventually dismissed for 215. Williamson and Nicholls added 363 runs for the 3rd wicket. It was a remarkable performance by the New Zealand batters as they declared their innings on 580 for 4. Henry Nicholls completed his maiden double century with 15 fours and 4 sixes.
Matt Henry and Doug Bracewell got the two wickets to leave Sri Lanka in trouble at 26 for 2. Henry got rid of Oshada Fernando while a stunning catch by Devon Conway got the wicket of Kusal Mendis.

Kane Williamson has been in sensational form with a match-winning century in the first Test giving New Zealand a thrilling win. He looked in complete control during the 1st innings showing his class against Sri Lanka.
Williamson registered his sixth double-century in Test matches and equalled Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Pointing in scoring 200-plus scores during a five-day format. He also scored his 28th Test century. It was a remarkable performance by Williamson and Nicholls to take the game away from New Zealand.
Kane Williamson and Henry Nicholls achieved 369 runs partnership for the 4th wicket against Pakistan at Hagley Oval, Christchurch on 3rd January 2021. They again proved their worth with 363 runs partnership for the 3rd wicket against Sri Lanka on 18 March 2023.
