Dissimilar to the former India head coach Ravi Shastri’s judgment of ceasing bilateral T20Is and regulating them merely to the World Cups, the former India cricketer Aakash Chopra rather preferred to highlight the ODI format as far as the fans and broadcasters’ engagement is concerned.

The cricketer-turned-commentator also thinks that the 50-over format requires to be reformed as no one memorizes the ODI matches anymore. In a video, shared via his YouTube channel, the 44-year-old cricket analyst stated that the ODI cricket is the most worthless format.

“If you see the interest levels, keeping the Tests aside as everything is not commercialization, I feel ODI cricket is the most boring contest. It is the most meaningless; it is the format that no one remembers.”

Furthermore, Chopra added that the 50-over game is not the preferred format for broadcasters and audiences. He stated, “It is the format where neither the broadcasters nor the fans enjoy it. That’s ODI cricket and there are multiple reasons for that.”

“In 50-over cricket, the 30 overs in the middle are neither a Test nor a T20. ODI is not a format that is going to keep you engaged for too long,” he added.

“Every country’s broadcast rights will take a major hit” – Aakash Chopra

Because the T20 cricket has gained a ton of attention across the world, the ODI cricket has certainly gone down a bit. Although, the former right-hand batter supported the bilateral T20Is to carry on.

“I think ODI cricket is struggling. It is not T20I cricket that is struggling. Let the T20 internationals continue because the broadcasters will need them, or else they won’t give you the money. Every country’s broadcast rights will take a major hit,” Chopra stated.

Moreover, the former India cricketer Ravi Shastri had asserted that international T20s should only be played at World Cups. But Chopra unlike Shastri, said”

“I feel T20 internationals should continue because if you play T20 cricket at the international level just once every two years, there will be no time for you to actually prepare for that world event.”
