India won the T20 World Cup 2024.

Exactly one year ago, Indian cricket reached a historic high. On June 29, 2024, the Men in Blue captured the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title with a thrilling seven-run victory over South Africa in the final at the iconic Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.

This triumph was more than just a victory, it marked the end of a 17-year-long wait and symbolized redemption. For Rohit Sharma, who was part of India’s first T20 World Cup win in 2007, the moment was especially meaningful. This time, he lifted the trophy as captain, leading with purpose and inspiring a nation.

As celebrations unfolded, two legends, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, announced their retirement from T20 internationals, departing the format with pride and immense respect. Their farewell could not have been more perfect. Rahul Dravid, the calm and respected head coach, also stepped down, ending his tenure on the highest possible note.

Years of missed opportunities, including semi-final exits and a disappointing 2021 campaign, were finally put to rest by a team that delivered when it mattered most. That memorable day in Barbados was not just a win, it was the realization of a legacy.

Kohli Leads India To Victory

India opted to bat first but faced early trouble as Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Rishabh Pant were dismissed cheaply, all failing to reach double figures. The innings was then stabilized by a crucial 72-run stand between Virat Kohli and Axar Patel, which helped shift the momentum.

Axar played the aggressive role, scoring 47 off 31 balls with one four and four sixes before being run out. Kohli played a composed knock, anchoring the innings until the second-last over and scoring 76 from 59 deliveries, including six fours and two sixes.

Towards the end, Shivam Dube chipped in with a quick 27 off 16 balls, helping India reach a total of 176 for seven in their 20 overs. For South Africa, both Keshav Maharaj and Anrich Nortje took two wickets each.
