Over 250 IPL Jerseys Valued At ₹6.5 Lakh Reportedly Stolen From BCCI Office At Wankhede: Reports

A carton containing official 2025 IPL jerseys was allegedly stolen from the BCCI office at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. The theft came to light after a BCCI official lodged a complaint at the Marine Drive police station on July 17. As per a Times of India report, security guard Farooque Aslam Khan has been arrested in connection with the case.

The stolen jerseys, totaling 261, are estimated to be worth ₹6.5 lakh, with each priced at approximately ₹2,500. Sources revealed that the theft occurred on June 13 from a storeroom within the office, and the accused reportedly sold the jerseys to a dealer based in Haryana.

Following an audit that revealed missing jerseys, CCTV footage showed the security guard carrying a cardboard box, raising suspicions of theft. In other news, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally clinched their first IPL title in 2025, overcoming Punjab Kings (PBKS) by a narrow margin of six runs in the final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

With this win, RCB ended a 17-year wait for the championship. Krunal Pandya, the left-arm spinner, delivered an outstanding performance with figures of 4-0-17-2 and was named Player of the Match.

Security Guard Accused Of Stealing IPL 2025 Jerseys To Fund Online Gambling: Reports

As per the report, a source stated that the security guard has not yet disclosed how much money he received from the Haryana-based dealer in exchange for the IPL 2025 jerseys. Police revealed that the guard spent the money to support his addiction to online gambling. Speaking about the case, a source informed TOI:

“The guard claims he haggled a bit with the online dealer, but hasn’t yet specified how much he got for the deal.”

A police source indicated that the online dealer may have been unaware that the IPL jerseys he purchased were stolen. The source stated:

“The online dealer says he was not aware that the jerseys had been stolen. The guard told the man in Haryana that the jerseys were part of a stock clearance sale due to renovation work that was going on at the office.”
