The debate surrounding the greatness of India’s Virat Kohli and Australia’s Steve Smith seems neverending. The spectrum gets divided into two halves when it comes to choosing one ahead of the other. Recently, Pakistan legend Zaheer Abbas revealed his pick between the two modern greats.
Kohli and Smith are two of the finest batsmen the modern-day cricket has witnessed. They have taken batsmanship to a whole new level breaking records at will. In 2018, Kohli became the fastest to 10,000-run mark in ODI format.

In T20Is, he is yet to score a hundred but has 24 fifties up his sleeves, much ahead of the Australian. The Indian skipper is also in the lead in Tests with respect to runs and centuries, but Smith has been touted for his determination and consistency. He shattered almost all the records in Ashes 2019 in England.
Although the debate surrounding the two continues to rife, Zaheer Abbas has made his stance clear. Despite picking Steve Smith as the best in red-ball cricket, Abbas opined that Virat Kohli is the best across all the formats.
“But yeah, Steve Smith is more consistent than Kohli in Test cricket. He scores in almost every series he plays. Even the other Australian — David Warner — has been doing well,” Abbas told The Telegraph. “But as I said, a batsman needs to perform in all formats and in that sense, Kohli is more consistent in the other versions as well,” he added.

Furthermore, Zaheer Abbas also hailed his countrymen Babar Azam, who has shown great consistency in recent times. Praising the youngster, the former cricketer said that Babar will attain new heights in the country’s cricket.
“Just look at what Kohli has achieved over the years Also, he is not a machine. Even a machine sometimes mal-functions. At this moment, there aren’t many who can parallel Kohli. Babar has been the most consistent batsman for Pakistan, having performed in all formats. I just hope he keeps on scoring and scales bigger heights,” Abbas concluded.
