Pakistan name squad for the Asia Cup and World T20

Pakistan name squad for the Asia Cup and World T20: Pakistan Cricket Board on Wednesday announced a 15-member squad for the Asia Cup and world championship to be held in India next month. They have dropped opener Ahmed Shehzad and experienced pacer Umar Gul from the squad.

Shahid Afridi will lead the side which has 4 uncapped players – batsmen Khurram Manzoor and Babar Azam, fast bowler Rumman Raees, and all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz. Lanky pacer, Mohammad Irfan also returns to the squad after couple of months. Shoaib Maqsood and Mohammad Rizwan also missed the cut.

“The T20 team has been selected keeping in mind the conditions during Asia Cup and World T20 and the recent performances of some players in domestic and A Team tours. The team is a fine blend of experience and youth and the selectors believe that team will do well in both tournaments,” said Rashid, the chief selector.

The pace department looks very healthy, which has been their strength for many years now, will consist of Mohammad Amir, Anwar Ali, Mohammad Irfan and Wahab Riaz.

Pakistan will kick-off their campaign on March 16 against the fifth qualifying team in their pool.
